Volume : 500,000 cu ft
Duration : 4 Months
Project Description
A 3D model was needed for the conversion of this facility from freon production to
a new freon alternative product.
BE&K Engineering a long-time user of PDMS 3D modeling
software, wanted to engineer the project using PDMS. Past experience had shown
3D modeling to be beneficial in reducing engineering errors, providing
additional engineering documentation, and reducing down time for modification.
The modeling also aided construction simulation and worker
familiarization.
Scope of Services
The 3D model was generated for one-third the cost of manual methods. Additionally,
the client verified astounding accuracies on all phases of the plant modeled.
The project was completed safely, under budget, and ahead of schedule. Rework
was less than .2% of TIC, compared to an industry average of 6% of
TIC.

Project Description
The project was the replacement of the failing vapor loop between the two existing
stills at the client’s plant site. The replacement loop consisted of the
connecting pipe (36” Dia.) and the upper half of the primary still. The
replacement pipe was constructed of titanium and prefabricated off site. The
mating flanges and bolt alignment were modeled using as-built services
techniques.
Scope of Services
The project survey was accomplished in very little time. A Microstation 3D Cad model
was then generated of the existing components including the bolt alignment of
the mating flanges. Upon installation of the new components it was observed that
the mating flange alignment was within 2 mm. The as-built services involvement
proved to be a success by reducing shutdown time approximately 75%.

Project Description
The existing facility was to be expanded to facilitate greater production. This
would require the demolition of some of the existing pipe and equipment and then
addition of new components and piping. An as built PDMS model was required of
the plant to allow the design of the new process.
Scope of Services
During the site visit, control data and as-built
information were collected to document the facility. A PDMS Cad model was
generated of the 50 bays spread over three different elevations. All piping,
instrumentation in-line and remote, equipment, steel, concrete, duct, cable
tray, conduit, and electrical components were included in the as built model.
The model was a success due to reduced interference’s and rework.

Project Description
The project involved the replacement of an existing nitric acid system with new
titanium piping. To reduce the amount of down time required to replace the
piping it was determined that it would be done one section at a time. The piping
would be prefabricated off site and bolted in during normal maintenance outages.
As-built services were used to provide highly accurate as built drawings of the
existing system for the fabrication of the new piping.
Scope of Services
The survey was completed during a site visit. All associated piping connections were
modeled along with the nitric acid system. A Microstation 3D Cad model was
produced and used by the client for fabrication.

Project Description
A PDMS 3D model was provided for process building for as-built purposes. Although
this was a new building, it was considered necessary for future repairs to this
facility.
Scope of Services
Field surveying was scheduled for evening and night to
allow process tests to continue during day working hours as not to delay
start-up of the new facility. All structural, concrete, piping 2 ½” and
larger, and in-line instrumentation, electrical cable trays, and HVAC duct was
included in the model.

Project : Vessel Replacement
Location : Confidential
Volume : NA
Duration : 1 Week
Project Description
A PDMS 3D model was provided for piping and equipment connection nozzles of the
No.6 Crystallizer to prepare for crystallizer replacement. This information was
used to assist in fabrication of the new crystallizer for efficient and precise
replacement
Scope of Services
Nozzles were precision surveyed to achieve high level of
accuracy for removal and replacement of connecting piping. Drawings were
delivered with information such as precise orientation, bolthole arrangement,
and relative location.

Project Description
A PDMS 3D model was provided for phase one of an existing process building. This
project was to document as-built information for removal and replacement of
selected piping and equipment.
Scope of Services
Field team collected as built information for entire
building, adjoining pipe bridge, and tank farm. Only a portion of the building
was modeled with the remaining to be modeled at a later date. Piping 1” and
larger, structural, electrical cable trays, and ductwork were also modeled.

A PDMS 3D model was provided to document as-built piping, electrical, structural,
equipment, etc., for a retrofit project. This project was the second of two
projects in this plant.
Scope of Services
Field team collected data in portions of the building and
adjoining pipe bridge. Piping 2” and larger, structural, electrical cable trays,
and ductwork were modeled.
