Project : Paper Machine Upgrade Location : Jay, Maine Volume : 384,000 cu ft Duration : 3 Months Project Description In preparation for a major upgrade of the existing facility including the removal of the headbox and fourdrinier sections of the machine, a precise PDMS 3D CAD model of the included areas was created. This was deemed necessary to account for all previous modifications in the affected areas, and so space tolerances could be maintained, both before and after demolition. Scope of Services During the site visit, control data and as-built information were gathered to document the design areas. A PDMS 3D CAD model was generated of the 67 bays over three elevations. The model includes all stationary equipment, piping, structural steel, cable tray, and ductwork. The model proved to be a success by allowing engineers and designers to plan the shutdown more efficiently. Reduced downtime and improved coordination between trades created cost savings for the engineering company as well as the owner.
