Project Description
In preparation for a major machine and process upgrade by BE&K Engineering, a
precise 3D model of the existing Counce mill was created to to ensure that all
undocumented modifications were accounted for, and that space tolerances, both
before and after demolition, could be determined accurately.
Scope of Services
A site visit was made to gather control data, and to capture the required
information. An intelligent PDMS CAD model was then generated of the 35 bays spread
over the basement, operating, and mezzanine levels of the drive aisle, including
the design of cantilevered beams throughout all levels.
The model was accurate to ± 1/4 in. and included all piping, equipment, structures, and ductwork.
Two-dimensional CAD drawings were also produced from the model to support the engineering
effort.

Project : Refiner Exchange
Location : Counce, Tennessee
Project Description
PCA planned to improve the refining process at the Counce mill by removing and
replacing a refiner in the stock preparation area on the operating floor.
A 3D as-built model was considered the quickest and most cost-effective method to guide this
delicate procedure in a densely piped area.BE&K Engineering used the new model
adjacent to our previous PCA/BE&K model, to accurately design and install
the latest configuration.
Scope of Services
Control data and as-built information were gathered during
a trip to the mill.
An intelligent 3D CAD model of all equipment, structural steel, and
ductwork was produced to represent the 17-bay area.
The model also included piping rework for the existing and new refiners.
The model was accurate to ± ¼ in. and was delivered in PDMS format.
