Project Description
This facility required a very accurate representation of a
non-hazardous area for the safe and efficient removal and replacement of the
diesel generation equipment.Southern Company Services needed a custom
tailored model to illustrate the piece-by-piece removal of this equipment.
As-built 3D modeling was chosen as the most precise and economical method of achieving this
aim.
Scope of Services
Control data and as-built information were produced during
a site visit.
A highly detailed, intelligent 3D as-built model of the entire diesel
generator unit was developed.The model included all structural steel,
concrete, equipment, electrical conduit, cable tray, electrical junction boxes,
control panels, piping and electrical supports, and piping ¼” and up.
The model even included miscellaneous items such as light fixtures and fire extinguishers.
In addition, the model was structured to allow the creation of an animated sequence of the
disassembly process for construction planning purposes.

Project Description
A MicroStation 3D model was provided for reheaters A, B, C and D tube bundle
replacement. Purpose of model was to coordinate replacement with a minimum
schedule.
Scope of Services
Fieldwork was performed during a shutdown inside the
reactor building. Equipment, piping, etc., were modeled to be sequenced in an
animation to show removal of heat exchangers. All heat exchangers were included
in the release. Model included 1” pipe and larger, equipment, structures,
electrical cable trays and ductwork. Model was successful in allowing the client
to coordinate the project and reduce shutdown time.
