Pump Removal Location : Browns Ferry, Alabama Volume : 13,500 cu ft Duration : 1 Week Project Description The No. 2 Reactor Residual Heat Removal Pumps were designed to be removed for maintenance on a periodic basis.However, later additions to the plant had rendered this impractical.An alternate removal system was therefore required.A complete visualization of the process was deemed possible utilizing the technology of as-built services and animation. Scope of Services The field survey for this project was completed in less than six hours due to the necessarily limited exposure time in a nuclear plant. A 3D CAD model was developed of the piping, conduit, and all incidentals. An engineering design team consisting of mechanical, structural, and electrical engineers employed this model to produce an alternate removal technique. An animated demonstration of the removal was then developed to illustrate the procedure for maintenance personnel.
