As-Built Services - Laser scanning
Traditionally engineering and construction methods usually rely on engineers collecting and assembling information from existing drawings and taking many manual field measurements. These tedious and time consuming activities, historically, expose projects to unacceptable schedule and financial risks because of inaccurate data. Today, as-built 3D laser scanning technology offers a very cost-effective solution for both the 2D or 3D retrofit project. BE&K, a worldwide leader in this technology in both industrial and civil applications, offers a complete and proven implementation package.
The key to success: “Having quality data and knowing how to most effectively use it”…This is where BE&K’s As-Built Services delivers something no other competitor offers. We guide and assist our clients by providing many proven and established work processes to assure success.
Whether yours is a large 3D project or a small 2D project, we have cost effective solution for you.
The Laser:
The Cyrax laser system, along with Cyclone software, by Cyra Technologies, Inc., is the primary laser utilized for our projects, although other lasers such as Riegl and Mensi are used for specific applications. The Cyrax laser radar (Lidar) system uses a patented high energy pulsed laser which delivers long range and yet is a safe FDA Class 2 - “eye friendly” laser. Cyrax can be safely used in normal and hostile working environments, whether light or dark. It offers advanced 3D CAD modeling capabilities, high speed, long range, and high accuracy. The average accuracy is +/- ¼” over a range of 200 feet. Cyrax captures approximately 1000 points per second and stores this data as a three-dimensional cloud of points. These spatially accurate points can be viewed, measured, or used to generate a 3D CAD model.
The BE&K As-Built Services Difference:
Laser data is captured directly as digital data. The average point count usually ranges from 600,000 to 1,000,000 points per scan. Digital data permits an engineer to work directly in the cloud, which can minimize or eliminate the cost associated with 3D CAD modeling. This unique difference can save a project as much as 50%, compared with executing the project in the conventional 3D manner. Since everything from conduits to insignificant rod hangers are captured, the accuracy and completeness of the 3D as-built laser cloud allows for a greater level of interference removal. BE&K has developed many work processes to efficiently work in the cloud of points, which permits far greater utilization and more significant cost savings.
